I have drawn for as long as I can remember but
after leaving school and starting work it became
very sporadic and I didn't pick up a pencil for
about 8 years.
It is only recently that I returned to coloured
pencil drawing.
I now work from home in Devon and not only find
more time at weekends to indulge myself in drawing,
which I find very therapeutic and relaxing, but
I also
find the southwest very inspiring as well.

Ann Holden
Ann Holden has been drawing animals since she
was a teenager, when drawing horses was the closest
she could get to owning her own pony. When she
grew up, she went to Cambridge University to read
Veterinary Medicine. She qualified as a vet in
1980 and went into small animal practice in the
north west of England.
In 1989 she opened her own surgery until 2000.
During this period, there were limited opportunities
for Ann to develop her artistic skills but she
joined a local watercolour class and the North
West Calligraphers’ Association (NWCA).
In 2000, ill health forced Ann to sell the business
so she formed Artisann and started to offer pet
portraits. While establishing ArtisAnn, Ann continues
to be involved in local art classes and is now
treasurer of the NWCA.

Paul Hopkinson
I've had an interest in drawing and painting since
the age of five. My Uncle Peter Hopkinson took
me out many time painting the landscapes around
Derbyshire.
In 1987my family moved down to Devon to make a
fresh start in life and being only 18 years old
and unemployed I decided to tag along.
During this time I have been doing commissioned
paintings of dogs, cats, birds, children, well
just about anything really! Both my son and my
painting are my life.
I paint as a hobby artist enjoying the relaxation
this lovely hobby brings. I do paint commissions
for people but only charge a small fee to cover
the material costs.
If I have a favourite thing to paint then I would
choose animals as my first choice and portraits
as my second.

Caroline Howlett
Animals have always been a huge part of my life,
whether I was walking my dogs, riding or just
spending time with them. This naturally led to
an interest in their form and earthly beauty.
After leaving school I studied agriculture then
took various jobs ranging from silver service
waitressing to heavy horse showing, each job giving
me ample opportunity to flex my drawing muscles.
In 1998 I set up a pet nanny service, Petnanny,
caring for all types of pet and this allowed me
to meet a huge quantity of perfect subjects, so
after selling my artwork for over 11 years I decided
to take my artwork a little further.
